In terms of history, Firefly was established as a low-cost carrier (LCC) by Malaysia Airlines in 2007. It took over all of MAS’ domestic routes from Penang and Subang airports which were not being served by the full-service carrier AirAsia. As for their fleet, Firefly currently operates a total of 19 ATR 72-500 aircrafts across all its routes. This turboprop aircraft has a capacity of 74 seats (70 for passengers and 4 for crew), and is used primarily on short-haul routes where demand does not warrant
